About Me

I have been studying piano for nearly two decades, developing my skills through the Kirk Method. I had the privilege of learning under the guidance of Laura Kirk, a renowned piano teacher in the San Diego area, whose expertise deeply influenced my approach to teaching. Alongside my piano studies, I also gained valuable experience working with children (ages 5-16) as a program lead for the YMCA and as an instructional assistant with the Vista Unified School District.

After several years of teaching in the San Diego area, I discovered my passion for helping others grow musically and witnessed firsthand the transformative power of music. Now, I’m excited to bring the Kirk Method to Orange County and share this unique approach with my students.

My Approach and Philosophy

Throughout my piano journey, I've come to realize that my experience in lessons was quite different from many others. I've often heard students say they stopped taking lessons because their teachers were too strict, uninspiring, or focused too much on repetitive scales. Many traditional methods of learning piano primarily involve memorizing a few pieces in a limited range of five-finger patterns, like C and G Major. While this approach may help in the short term, it doesn't expose students to the broader spectrum of keys and often leaves them struggling with sight-reading and technical skills in the long run.

This is why I take a different approach in my teaching. Using the Kirk Method, I guide my students through a varied curriculum that includes shorter, multiple-key pieces each week, alongside supplemental performance pieces. This method allows students to recognize patterns more quickly, making it easier for them to learn new pieces and progress faster.

I believe in providing the right material at the right time, ensuring that students build confidence in their abilities and stay motivated throughout their lessons. My goal is not only to teach music, but also to help students internalize key concepts such as reading and technique, which are crucial for musical growth. A strong foundation in sight-reading is particularly important, as it enhances overall piano performance and unlocks endless possibilities for exploring new repertoire.

Ultimately, my aim is to help students develop a solid foundation in music, fostering continued success and independence at the piano. I strive to create an environment where learning is engaging and rewarding, and where every student can feel confident in their musical abilities.

 THE KIRK METHOD

Using an uncommonly effective method for piano studies, I can help my students gain strong sight-reading skills while strengthening their technical and interpretive skills. Over time, they will gain fluency in the language of music and become more independent by gaining confidence in their ability to approach new pieces.
